Plainfield Community Power
In 2017, a
record number of Plainfield residents attended Town Meeting and voted
overwhelmingly to support using 100% renewable electricity by 2030 followed by
100% renewable heating, cooling and transportation by 2050.
A major
milestone in attaining this goal is, after years of concerted effort by energy
committees and town officials across the state, COMMUNITY POWER is coming to
New Hampshire! Ten communities belonging
to the Community Power Coalition of NH will be transitioning to
community power soon, and in the upper valley, Plainfield, Lebanon, Hanover and
Enfield will be among the first!
What does this mean for you?
In the coming weeks, every Liberty and Eversource
customer in Plainfield will receive a notice in the mail from the Community Clean
Power Coalition of NH - please keep an eye out for it. Customers currently
purchasing their electricity from these utilities will automatically be
enrolled into a Plainfield Community Power (PCP) plan offering electricity that
meets or exceeds New Hampshire’s Renewable Portfolio Standard and is less
expensive than what is available through their utility.
This letter will also explain how you can choose to purchase
a higher level of renewable clean energy, or, if you prefer to remain a customer
of your current supplier, how you can easily Opt Out.
Liberty or Eversource will continue to deliver your
power, maintain transmission lines, and send your monthly bills – only the
source of electricity will be different.
(At this time, PCP is not able to offer a lower price for
electricity that meets the minimum RPS requirements for NHEC customers, and
NHEC customers will not automatically be enrolled into PCP. However, NHEC customers are welcome to Opt In
to higher levels of renewable energy offered by PCP)
PCP belongs to a non-profit energy aggregation coalition
(CPCNH) whose mission is to keep
electricity prices low and provide greener energy. After expenses, any money earned from our
electric rates are reinvested in our community. You may see other third party
aggregators offer lower prices, but read their contract terms carefully. With PCP, you are free to change electricity
suppliers at the end of every month.
The Plainfield Energy Aggregation Committee will a public information sessions prior to the automatic enrollment into PCP on Tuesday, April 4 at 7pm at Singing Hills, 71 King Drive.
